Tungsten Carbide is quickly becoming one of the leading choices in rings due to their extreme hardness and scratch resistant finish. It is important to understand, however, that not all Tungsten Carbide rings are created alike. During the design process of the ring, a “binder” is used to bond the Tungsten and the Carbon together. The material the manufacturer chooses to use in this process will directly affect the quality of the ring. At Towvany, our Tungsten Carbide rings are made using a nickel-binder alloy because independent research has proven it to be superior to other methods. Some manufacturers will use a less-expensive cobalt-binder alloy when manufacturing their rings, which produces a product that over time, will tarnish and may even cause a rash. This occurs because the cobalt used in the alloy will oxidize when it comes into contact with the oils on your skin resulting in a discoloration that cannot be corrected with polishing or grinding. The nickel-binder alloy used in Towvany’s Tungsten Carbide rings is chemically inert, so it will never oxidize or tarnish and it is hypoallergenic, so it will never irritate your skin. Other manufacturers may offer wedding bands made of pure Tungsten. These rings are also inferior because without the added component of Carbon, the ring will lack strength and durability and will scratch more easily. When you are shopping for your Tungsten Carbide ring, we recommend you ask the jeweler what metal has been used in the “binding process” to create it. If they are unsure, you probably are not getting a brilliant, high quality, scratch resistant product, such as a ring created by Towvany. Towvany's rings are engraved with our name to insure that you are getting the highest quality Tungsten Carbide available. Towvany also offers personalized engraving at no additional charge.
